Licensed Electrician Serving Newmarket, NH

Electrician Upgrading an Electrical Panel in Dover New Hampshire

Electrical Work in Newmarket, From Service Calls to Panel Upgrades

Newmarket is a town built on layers. The downtown core along Main Street and the Lamprey River has homes that date back well over a century. Spread out from there and you find neighborhoods that went up in the 1960s and 70s, plus newer construction along Route 108 and out toward Lee and Newfields. The electrical work each of these areas needs is different, and we handle all of it.

Most of our Newmarket work falls into two buckets. The first is older-home service upgrades and troubleshooting, which is what happens when wiring that was installed decades ago starts showing its age. Flickering lights, tripping breakers, panels at capacity, outlets going dead, and insurance companies flagging outdated service entrances are all routine for us here. The second is EV charger installations, which have picked up noticeably in Newmarket as more homeowners switch over to electric vehicles.

Every job is backed by a licensed NH Master Electrician, permitted with the Town of Newmarket when required, and quoted flat-rate with a written scope of work before we start. You know what you are paying before we begin.

How We Approach Electrical Work in Newmarket

Newmarket has a lot of homes that have been updated piecemeal over the years. That means the panel you are looking at probably has circuits from three different decades wired by three different people, and figuring out what is actually going on requires someone who knows what they are looking at. We do.

Every job is priced before we start. You see the number, you approve it, and that is what you pay. If we find something additional during the visit we quote it on the spot before touching anything. No surprises on the invoice.

Here is what sets us apart:

  • Licensed and Insured Master Electrician standing behind every project. Not a handyman, not a franchise tech on their second week. Our team carries NH Master Electrician credentials (#13956) and ME Electrician credentials (#MS60021263) plus years of hands-on field experience.
  • Flat-Rate Pricing presented before work begins. You approve the price, we do the work. No hourly billing that creeps up while you watch the clock.
  • Same-Day and Next-Day Availability for most service calls. Newmarket is about 20 to 25 minutes from our Somersworth shop, so we can usually get to you quickly.
  • Locally Owned, Not a Franchise. When you call Loyal Lab you are not reaching a call center routing you to the nearest available tech. You are reaching our team in Somersworth.
  • We Clean Up After Ourselves. Job site left cleaner than we found it. Every time.

Common Electrical Problems in Newmarket Homes

Every town has its own version of the same underlying issues. Here is what shows up on Newmarket service calls more than anywhere else we work.

Older service panels at capacity. A lot of Newmarket homes are running 100-amp service that was installed decades ago. Add an EV charger, a hot tub, a finished basement, or a home office, and suddenly you are tripping breakers weekly. A 200-amp service upgrade solves this for most homes, and we handle the permit with Newmarket and the utility coordination end to end.

Aluminum branch wiring in homes built in the late 60s through mid 70s. Aluminum branch wiring is not inherently dangerous, but it requires specific treatment, either full replacement or proper connection with approved aluminum-rated devices. Newmarket has a lot of homes from this era where standard copper-rated outlets were installed on aluminum wire, which is both a code violation and a legitimate fire risk.

Backstabbed outlets failing after years of use. These are outlets where the previous installer pushed the wire into a hole in the back of the device instead of wrapping it around the screw. It is technically allowed but failure-prone, and a lot of homes in Newmarket were wired this way. They tend to fail eventually, which shows up as outlets going dead or burning smells behind cover plates.

Panel upgrades needed for EV charger installs. We install Level 2 EV chargers regularly in Newmarket, and a good portion of those jobs turn into panel upgrades first. A 100-amp panel that is already near capacity cannot reasonably add a 40 or 50 amp dedicated EV circuit. We do the math, walk through the options, and quote both jobs together so there are no surprises partway through.

Knob and tube wiring hidden in older downtown homes. The oldest homes in Newmarket, particularly around the downtown core and the surrounding older neighborhoods, sometimes still have sections of active knob and tube wiring in walls, attics, or basement ceilings. Insurance companies are increasingly refusing to renew policies for homes with active knob and tube, which is why we see these calls more now than we did five years ago.

Insufficient grounding and bonding in older homes. Ungrounded two-prong outlets, improperly bonded water pipes, and panels without a proper ground rod are common findings in older Newmarket homes. We bring these up to current NEC requirements during panel upgrades and service calls.

Working on Newmarket's Older Homes and Mill-Era Neighborhoods

Newmarket has a character that comes from its history. The Lamprey River runs through town, the downtown dates back to the early 1700s, and the former textile mill complex along the river has been converted into apartments, condos, and shops that keep the downtown active. Beyond downtown you get older single-family homes on quiet streets, newer construction along Route 108, and rural properties out toward Lee and Newfields.

That mix of old and new is what makes the electrical work in Newmarket interesting. A lot of the homes have been through multiple owners, multiple renovations, and multiple rounds of updates over the decades, and most of those updates were done without a master plan. When we open a panel in an older Newmarket home we see the evidence of it right away.

The Town of Newmarket handles permits and electrical inspections through the code enforcement office. Any work that requires a permit, we pull it, coordinate the inspection, and make sure the job passes the first time.

The Rusty Fund donates $10 from every completed job and $100 from every generator installation to local dog rescues, including the Pope Memorial Humane Society in Dover. Frequently Asked Questions About Electrical Services in Newmarket

How quickly can you get to my Newmarket home for a service call?

Most service calls in Newmarket are scheduled same-day or next-day. Our shop is in Somersworth, about 20 to 25 minutes from downtown Newmarket. For emergencies we prioritize getting there as quickly as possible.

Yes. We serve Newmarket, Durham, Lee, Madbury, Newfields, and Stratham, and extend into Exeter, Epping, and Greenland when the job fits. If you are not sure whether we cover your area give us a call.

Most 100A to 200A upgrades on Newmarket homes fall between $3,500 and $6,500 depending on panel location, service entrance condition, and whether the meter base needs replacing. Permits and inspections with the Town of Newmarket are always included. We quote flat-rate after a site visit with no surprise charges.

Yes. Loyal Lab Electric & Generators holds NH Master Electrician License number 13956 and carries full liability insurance and workers compensation coverage. We pull all required permits and schedule inspections for every job that requires them.

We offer free estimates for larger projects like panel upgrades, generator installations, and EV charger setups. For service calls and troubleshooting, there is a service call fee but any work required beyond that will be quoted for free before any repairs begin

Yes. We install Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint, Grizzl-E, Emporia, and most other Level 2 chargers. Most installs take 2 to 4 hours if your panel has capacity. If a panel upgrade is needed first, we quote both jobs together.

Usually not. Most older homes do not need a full rewire. They need targeted updates such as a service upgrade, grounding improvements, replacement of failed circuits, GFCI protection where it is missing, and aluminum wiring remediation if present. We walk through exactly what needs to happen and what does not during the estimate.

We are an authorized Generac dealer and install Generac whole-home standby generators. We also provide ongoing maintenance and service for existing Generac generators. Rochester and the surrounding area experience enough winter storm outages that a standby generator is one of the best investments you can make for your home

The Rusty Fund is our charitable initiative supporting local dog rescues, including the Pope Memorial Humane Society in Dover. We donate $10 from every completed job and $100 from every generator installation. It is named after Rusty, the yellow lab who inspired everything Loyal Lab stands for.
